Both on "Spent my days with a woman unkind" and on "Bron Yr Aur", I prefered it with a shorter release.. I turned it to But once again, I'm not a guitarist, I have to guitar to verify that my setting changes are good or bad.. Just my personal taste.. The good thing in having one preset per string, is that you avoid having two notes covering eachother, when they should be played on the same string.. Then they should mute eachother.. Sure, my "Bron Yr Aur" cover would have been better if I had found a midi file where each string would have been a different channel, and send each midi channel to the matching preset..
Too-lazy-me will not take time to do it, but that would have been better. Thanks once again for the very nice compliment. It was a lot of work putting it together, but it didn't really feel like it. I had fun doing it. But as good as it is, it's not very practical for sequencing your own stuff unless you have a lot more patience than me.
It is an example though of why a guitar machine might be nice. But I could imagine what a nightmare it might be to code. For a more practical guitar preset, I finished another one last night that I'll post below. The reason they're not compatible is completely my fault and I probably could have avoided it if I knew then what I know now I think. For one, all samples were first made using a usb guitar cable that limits audio to 16bit. That would have been compatible I believe, but stupid me rendered them all as 32bit wavs before moving them into caustic.
Maybe there's some kind of batch editing software that can down sample them all? As far as the noise It sounds kinda like a bit crush effect. And when I realised my cable was limited to 16bit audio, that made me wonder- is that exactly what the noise is?
Anyway I'm not unhappy with it as it is, it just annoys me. Maybe I'm just being too picky. About the release time and polyphony I blame that on half ignorance, and half lack of experience.
I agree the release was a little too high. I have a tendency to do that. With the polyphony though, it didn't even occur to me until you mentioned it. But instead of moving it to 1, it might be better to set it to atleast 2, maybe 3 to allow for rapid changes on the same string, which occur a lot actually, especially in soloing. But I guess it would also depend on the song. To better understand the "complexity" of guitar note placement and why I felt compelled to try to make the guitar template in the first place, the site does a way better job of explaining it than I ever could.
Unfortunately this song is still not 3. There's a looped section I forgot to clear out. I'm too lazy to fix it and repost it, so fix it yourself. Hello Uncle.. Concerning the compatibility.. Your samples ARE 3. What is not compatible is the preset.. Did you get my private message yesterday?? I was telling you that I converted your 3.
By saving all your samples and loading them into caustic 3. I suppose that what makes your preset not-compatible is the stereo abilities of the PCMsynth on Caustic 3. There probably is a mono-stereo flag in the file, which caustic 3.
Anyway, please try to read your private message.. UncleAfx, that was a really nice rendition of Going to California. I think your hard work paid off in a nice, authentic sound. The sampled notes have the complexity of the real plucked notes, especially the lower notes. I won't get into technical stuff and I'm limited to 3. Thank you very much JHS. It means a lot. Although I loath to upload cover songs, there has been enough people asking me where to get these files for me to relent. This is one of our "holiday specials". They are songs we recorded live or in demo form and gave away at Christmas time each year.
